A letter about trying to build a freer, more attentive, more creative life. One issue follows one central question, rather than trying to cover every interest at once.

The intended shape: one lived scene, a useful insight or experiment, something made or discovered, and an invitation. The planned rhythm is every two weeks.

Request the letter

The mailing service is being set up. For now, you can send an explicit request by email. This opens your email app; it does not automatically enroll you or subscribe visitors who simply make an enquiry.

Request Field Notes by email

You can mention any interests: writing and philosophy · BJJ and movement · building and AI · music and gatherings. The main letter stays broad enough to hold the connecting thread. Occasional invitations can follow your chosen interests.

A sample: When experience becomes another treadmill

An example of the letter’s shape, drawn from existing writing. This is a sample, not a claim that a newsletter issue has already been sent.

In a note from Mexico, I described a year beginning with a firework hitting a propane tank, followed by another adjustment to Mexican food. Travel had a way of reminding me that a body is involved in all these grand ideas.

Later in that same piece, the sunset beaches and beautiful food became a question: was I sharing something useful, or merely making a life look enviable?

It’s good marketing & bad in practice.

That question returns in Every Flower, Every Ocean. More experiences can become their own accumulation. The useful experiment is smaller: notice one thing worth caring for, and return to it tomorrow.

Something to read: When Wonder Becomes Weather, reached through the opening reading sequence.

An invitation: what has helped you stop collecting experiences and start making something of them? Write back.
